| Creative Excellence Shines at the OMA Outdoor Advertising Awards 2007 |
Press Release : 24th April 2007
Outdoors’ best and shining creativity was awarded today at the 22nd OMA Outdoor Advertising Awards. It was a day that showcased the finest creative talent and produce in Ireland.
The ceremony, hosted by Neil Delamere, was held in The Round Room at The Mansion House. 19 awards were presented in total; Owens DDB, Chemistry, Publicis QMP, McConnells and DDFHB all faired particularly well. 300 people from the advertising and media world converged at the Dawson Street venue to celebrate the best in Outdoor media then continued celebrations until late at Samsara.
The winners were selected by two elite panels of judges – one focussed on how well a poster answered the creative brief while a separate panel examined case studies showing how Outdoor Advertising proved to be particularly effective at positively impacting upon sales and revenue for the advertiser. Judging Panel Chairperson, Carlos Anuncibay (Executive VP, Publicis) flew in from Mexico especially to judge the event. He commented, “I was impressed by the number and range of entries, many being of exceptionally high calibre presenting the brand in an effective, clear and innovative way. The Outdoor platform presents a fantastic canvas for excellent, succinct creativity.”
The judges were asked to consider the core concept, target market appeal, creative originality and clear visual / branding for each piece entered.
The latest category to be introduced is the ‘Innovative Use of the Medium’ award to recognise growth in the use of innovative techniques and thinking in Outdoor. Technology and production advancements have opened up greater creative scope in Outdoor Advertising. Carat Ireland took this award for their “National Lottery” drum inside a bus shelter.
Following on from the success of last years People’s Choice award, members of the public were invited to log onto www.outdoorawards.ie , view all entrants and vote for their particular favourite. They chose the winner as agency Atomic for Ben & Jerry’s quirky Luas ads.
The most coveted prize, the Grand Prix, went to Owens DDB for their MDL Volkswagen “Shoehouse”. The judges said “This poster is a good example of what still stands out when you walk away. It answers a brief completely in a compelling and relevant manner and holds on to the advertisers’ tradition of great advertising. This ad respects the intelligence and stage of life of its audience. It is simple, charming, witty and rewarding - all the elements of a great poster.”
